Venice Biennial, Venice 1999

Austrian Pavillion

 

the main piece for my project was called:

Please, teach me ... 50 languages spoken in countries that don't have any Pavillion at the Venice Biennial

and consists of 50 t-shirsts with text fields pirnted on them asking "please, teach me.. " in the original language . The reference translation was givne on the sleeves. this work reflects critically onthe pavillion system as a cultural manifestation of how art and culture historically have been organized around nation builing and nationalism and national competition.
